Independence Day

On the occasion of our August 15, Independence Day, here are thoughts from Nalin Nirula about what it means to be independent, free.

Update: October 8, 2017

August 15, 2017 found the country in a serious decline as a result of ill-conceived socio-economic experiments of the new BJP government in power. The demonetization disaster; the government seeking to circumvent peoples’ civil rights and liberties; efforts to control individual bank accounts by means of the Adhaar card and other measures, reinforce the long-held belief worldwide that no government is to be trusted.

In the present context, the powers of the executive branch of government need to be checked by the judiciary to uphold individual civil rights, and the issue is in the Supreme Court at this time

The previous Independence day thoughts are as relevant today as they were a few years ago when I first penned them. As much as things appear to be different today, that much they appear to be still the same.

“The Way of the Healer—To Endure & Prevail” – Saturday, August 17, 2013

The capacity to endure hard and difficult pressures of life without compromising one’s vision of how one needs to act in one’s own best interest, comes with a practical understanding of action and consequence.

Results that come directly from what one does can be misleading, as actions have a longer-term consequence of accountability beyond the just immediate.

There is a frequent tendency to think that immediate results are more or less final and no significant consequences lie beyond.

The thinking can also be that because there is a distance in time and space between what one does and the potential uncertain future results, those future consequences do not exist. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Wisdom comes in understanding that further consequences of all action will be there regardless of the immediate effects. Our awareness about these, or lack of knowing these does not decide whether future consequences will arise.

Future known and unknown consequences are inevitable, and a matter of personal experience throughout life, and will happen because actions are usually imperfect in the balancing of give and take, requiring future re-balancing.

Having come to this point of understanding, based on one’s life experience and intelligent thinking, further intelligence lies in looking to see if there is something that can eliminate this future re-balancing liability. A sincere search for answers for this will lead to the discovery of information about energies that heal action and consequences.

These energies not only eliminate future consequence liabilities and bindings, but change and improve the present as well, because without doing so, future consequences cannot be healed. All healing takes place in the present and travels across time and space through the past, present and future eliminating the need for re-balancing. In this process, the need for one to remain in this re-balancing zone of existence also draws to an end.

Healing overcoming all pains and misfortunes in the present and the future. In this way, lives and actions become filled with Divine healing grace that removes all sorrow and helplessness and instills life with confidence and joy.

The year leading to our 67th Independence Day today has seen much turmoil in the country, progress on different fronts and a falling-back on many others. The socio-economic condition within the country has created hardship for all the citizens.

All efforts at progress fail unless the disease of administrative and political corruption are not decisively tackled.

The need of the times continues to be the sustained efforts to heal the nation of the disease of corruption that eats away at the vitality of our collective lives.

The Empower Healing Project is a healing initiative where all healers worldwide are healing their own and other nations. Our collective healing efforts publicized as the ‘Empower Healing Project’ since 2011 have stimulated great change and a mood of reform in the country and in other countries as well.

We encourage healers to re-dedicate themselves to the objectives of the Empower Healing Project to root out corruption and injustice for the benefit of all the country’s citizens.

Jai Bharat! Jai Hind! God and the Divine Healing Empowerment Blesses us all!

Thoughts for Independence Day, August 15, 2012

Celebrating our nation’s 66th Independence Day today, we are reminded of our first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru’s famous Tryst with Destiny speech.

The socio-political freedom movement that he led against tyrannical rulers finds itself an upside-down reflection of the grand aims and ideals expressed on the midnight of August 15, 1947.

The political party that he led and the coalition government that the same party now leads, has transformed into the face of the home-grown corrupt and tyrannical rulers originally sought to be removed.

The oppressed have changed into the oppressors. The previous foreign rulers looted the country officially, and the home-grown political rulers have been looting the country unofficially. This has become a way of life. There have been a number of social movements against corruption and dictatorial political rulers since our Independence.

Some of these movements evolved into political parties aimed at making a difference for the benefit of their supporters and the citizens, but they too failed, falling prey to the availability of easy gains through working the established corrupt system without the power to withstand or change the influence and nature of the corrupt practices environment.

Social activist reformist movements that have engaged the public for the past couple of years are in the process of evolving into political movements.

This is a proper progression of their evolution for achieving a platform where they have the ability to bring about change in public administration and government.

If such political parties form a government, they too will have to withstand the pressures of working in the corrupt, debased political environment in which they must function. They will be faced with seriously compromising factors in the execution of their publicly stated agendas, and special interests will need to be catered to, as always.

This cycle can be broken and changed only by something that is more powerful and of a different and superior quality than the corruption mentality, activity and environment. Just as the rays of the sun touch and purify the dirtiest of thing without themselves being sullied, the rays of karmic healing of Reiki and the KQ Force can, and do, purify the greatest of evils without compromising the instrumental healer in any way. When enough karmic healers make it a mission in their life to heal the corruption in public life for the welfare of all, this objective of independence from oppressive and corrupt rulers will be realized without compromise.

The nature and influence of corrupt practices themselves will be transformed as can take place only through the purifying rays of Divine healing intervention. Then, one’s rendezvous with destiny will be at a different level and of a different quality. It will be for the freedom and uplift of all—the corrupt oppressors as well as the oppressed, because that is the healing way.

More Thoughts on Independence & Freedom

August 16, 2011 Where governments supervise and permit their functionaries to extort money from the citizens as a matter of course, the people must raise their voice and rise against such corrupt and cynical rulers–whether the rulers are in power or they are at present the political opposition.

At such time, when the corrupt try and seek shelter behind technicalities in support of their shaken position, or opportunistically support a people’s movement, the force of the people’s emotions creates waves to re-shape things in a way that defies logic.

Such emotional tsunamis of reaction affect everyone equally–the corrupt ones as well as those who are oppressed.

Much healing is needed to empower the righteous and minimize the pain of such surgery to the body politic of a nation.

August 17, 2011

Being in a position of power, is a responsibility that needs to be tempered with humility.

Arrogance that develops out of having some authority and power leads to oppressive acts by those in power. In such a state, the powerful lose touch with the needs and requirements of the situations presenting themselves.

This in turn leads to being overtaken by force of events that can sweep away the good along with the bad.

It is important for all in a position of authority to wield power that is entrusted to them, with the understanding that they are temporary custodians of authority rather than absolute controllers, and that they will be called to account at some time.

August 18, 2011

When dictatorial governments such as we have today, appear to bend before the mass protest of a nation, such as we see today, we should be extra cautious.

History tells us that when dictators and despots are called to account publicly, as they have been today, they can and will use any means to protect themselves and maintain their position. The more fearful and culpable they are, the more devious the measures they can use.

Similarly, it is the mandate of our binding karma to entangle us by all means in activity that keeps us in a position of being recycled in the material universe life after life.

Spiritual healing empowerments such as Reiki and the KQ Force are true saviors who deliver relief & freedom from the vicious enslaving cycle of material suffering.

The more renounced a leadership is, from enjoying personal benefits available from its position, the greater the potential prosperity of a group or even a nation. One can see the power of renunciation move the minds and hearts of a whole country, such as we see today in the mass movement against corrupt government.
This poster reflects the sentiment of Mahatma Gandhi's call to all Congressmen and Indians in 1942 to Karo ya maro ("Do or die") for the cause of freedom.

The movement is inspired by one man who has renounced personal benefits throughout his life in order to oppose injustice and oppression.

India has a history of such individuals of purpose who have given up personal accumulation of wealth for the greater wealth of renunciation for public welfare.

By practicing voluntary renunciation of some personal benefits on a daily basis, individuals can also develop the strength to overcome the oppressive forces of material nature.

Social Activist Anna Hazare, who follows Gandhian principles, started an Anti- Corruption movement in 2011 to fight corrupt practices in government and political administration.

The 100 year fight for freedom

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ is known as a great soul (mahatma), because of his austere lifestyle, and personal sacrifice for the greater good of the nation and the people.

He was a true nationalist who believed that a united nation of diverse communities would best serve the purpose of progress for all.

He was the chief architect of the non-violent civil disobedience Satyagraha (force of truth) movement that eventually pushed the British out of India.

The groundwork for the freedom movement was laid by Mahatma Gandhi who took charge of the Indian National Congress in 1921 on his return from South Africa.

His experience of fighting for civil rights for the blacks and non-white races in South Africa formalized his ideas for the Quit India, non-cooperation, and Satyagraha movements that finally resulted in freedom from British rule.

It had taken over a 100 years to achieve this.

Many other stalwarts of the freedom movement pulled together this collective freedom effort. Some of the prominent members were: G.K. Gokhale (who introduced Gandhi to the Indian National Congress), Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru (first Prime Minister of India), Dr. Rajendra Prasad (first President of India), Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan (the Afghani Pashtun freedom fighter against the British, popularly known in India as the ‘Frontier Gandhi’), also known as Bāchā Khān (in Pashto–‘the King of Chiefs’).

The list continues: Chakravarti Rajgopalachari, Dr. Anugraha Narayan Sinha, Jayaprakash Narayan, J. B. Kripalani. (‘Acharya’ Kriplani), Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Subhash Chandra Bose… and many, many others too numerous to list here.

To all of them we are grateful for what they did and sacrificed so that we can enjoy the degree of freedom and independence that we do today.

The Quit India, Swaraj (freedom) and Satyagraha movements had a base in non-violent protest, and non-cooperation civil disobedience against the British Raj. These movements were basically different applications and modifications at different times of the overall objective of getting rid of British rule.

The reality of violence that accompanied the movements against the British as well as the violence at the separation of the country into India and Pakistan, was a blow to Gandhi.

In the words of one of the leading authorities on the political and intellectual history of modern India, Stanely Wolpert : “(the) plan to carve up British India was never approved of or accepted by Gandhi…who realised too late that his closest comrades and disciples were more interested in power than principle, and that his own vision had long been clouded by the illusion that the struggle he led for India’s freedom was a nonviolent one.” (‘The Passion of Gandhi’)

It is easy to decry the acquisition and application of power to guide, manage and control the affairs of running a nation.

The reality is that administrators, managers, politicians, generals are all needed to minister to the workings of the nation.

Most importantly guidance is needed from the intellectual class. Among these, those who have a spiritual connection and a vision that spans more than the achievements of a lifetime are the most valuable mentors.

Higher knowledge of action and consequences is needed to guide politicians and administrators for the best benefit of the citizens of a country.

Those in the position of guides would be well served to get connected to spiritual karmic healing empowerments.

That will best serve their functioning at every level, while improving their own personal karmic accounts, and all those whose lives they touch and influence.

Today, we are fortunate to have in our nation many patriotic, upright citizens and workers for the uplift of the downtrodden and underprivileged.

We have honorable legislators, law-makers, parliamentarians, civil servants, bureaucrats, as well as a strong news-reporting media presence.

It is with their speaking out, their exposing and standing up against the evil of oppressive corrupt practices that has brought reforms to the political and administrative systems of the country.

With their efforts the entrenched political and business mafia is also being exposed and called to book. However, those instances are few compared to the wholesale frauds and scams being reported with such regular frequency that these have become a commonplace accepted fact of daily life.

The hegemony of vested political interests continues to resist all challenges to its domain and power today.

In the face of such a task, empowered Healers channel energies that apply a direction-changing force to the manifesting consequences arising from past actions, changing their impact for the benefit of the people.

Sustaining this work is part of our Empower Healing Project, through the collective strength of healers worldwide.

The first Prime Minister if India, 'Panditji' as Nehru was popularly referred to, was a charismatic leader. He was of the Kashmiri Pandit commuity.

While Nehru was a staunch nationalist like Gandhi, and he disavowed ‘communalism’ and ‘religionism’ in favor of nationalism, he was himself an agnostic, or agnostic-atheist.

Gandhi was deeply religious and followed the sanatana dharma faith. He had a deep interst in the religious-spiritual faiths of others, and promoted inter-faith harmony.

His strength of spirituality and leadership provided the freedom movement its power among the people of the country, as well as being able to influence world opinion significantly. All these factors prevailed upon the British for them to leave the country.

Today spiritual strength is seriously lacking among leaders in all fields of activity, whether political, business or other. This lack gives a very narrow vision and a feeling that one can do anything one can ‘get away with’ at the moment because one has the power at this time to be able to do so.

This is a very dangerous place to be in, as results of present action go far into the future affecting lives like a wave. Being at the originating center of such an action wave one may feel oneself to be stable, but when the wave sent out comes back with great force, it can wash away lifetimes of painstaking achievements.

The solution for this is to get a karmic healing capability that rectifies all types of disabilities and disqualifications that may come with one’s actions. It also permits the making of better choices for the maintenance and growth of one’s life’s assets.

The knowledge arising out of this makes one a truly knowledgeable ‘pandit’ — regardless of one’s religious affiliations or beliefs and non-beliefs.
